Place: from Sunningdale outside CPT to Melkbosstrand
Time and date: 31 December 2012

On 31st Dec my husband and I drove from Sunningdale outside CPT to Melkbosstrand where we live. On the way, we saw a bright red light move next to us above the ocean, then it moved around in front of us and then over towards Durbanville-side and disappeared.
We were quite baffled, as it moved too fast for a plane or hellicopter, plus it did not have the normal blinking lights like an airplane or helicopter. It moved in a very stable line. So no chance of chinese lanterns, flares etc.
Then on the 5th of January, we saw the same thing. I’m an amature astronomer and spend tons of time star gazing. Once again this bright red orb moved across the sky, I’d say from over the ocean, over Melkbosstrand and out of my view. This time I was outside, so I can safely say there was no sound whatsoever. It was much bigger than Jupiter and very bright. Once again it was stable – so no chance of flares/lanterns.
These two sightings were exactly the same thing; bright red (not orange)…and something that we have no idea what it is.
